France, the Country of Romantic Vacations

Maybe because of my background (Romanians have always had this thing for France and Bucharest was known as Little Paris, plus novels, movies and other vacation offers from tourism agencies), I see France, and especially Paris, as the place for romantic getaways. Yes, museums and art galleries are a big attraction and I'd go see them all. But have you seen the dancing on the Eiffel Tower scene from the Highlander series? Nothing more romantic than that!
What I really want to see in Paris, besides the Versailles with all its range of famous attractions, is the Luxembourg garden. I read about in high-school, during the French classes. A excerpt from Anatole France if I remember correctly and the feeling I need to go there when I have the chance stayed with me.
I also plan to see each major city or at least pass through it when I get to France. Nice ranks high on the must see list, along with Cannes. For those planning a similar trip to mine, maybe some practical advice is in order. So have your pick of France hotels, Paris hotels, Nice hotels, and feel free to look around for accommodation in whichever city, resort or village you're attracted to.

What a charming post! Reading it was a wonderful way for me to start my day. I hope to get to Paris one day.

I used to think the same way, Alina. Then I visited Paris and I remained with a sore image of crowded streets, long ques to visit anything, rushing people doing their day to day chores and no romance whatsoever! This romantic image of Paris is purely marketing and no real substance. Any city can be romantic if you feel like it and in the right company of course.
For me, Cracow was more romantic than Paris and you never hear this about Cracow, do you? It's not marketed...

Cris, I agree with you on some point. But I also think a view on a city also depends on the attitude you have towards it.

For example, Greece, Athens. A lot of people told me there's not much to it, just some old rocks and loads of marketing.

I still loved it. I'll see Paris with my feelings and thoughts on it. And queues (after Rome) don't really scare me, nor crowds :)
